Duration: Take things at a slow pace, stop to drink in the fabulous scenery and the whole thing will take about 3 hours.

Classification: Bike the Bay – Shanklin to Yaverland is easy peasy. Overall, it’s pan flat with many stop off points. However, if you have plenty of energy climb up to the top of Culver Cliff! Significantly, the views across the bay from here are worth the climb.

Bike the  Bay – Shanklin to Yaverland is a broad open bay. It stretches for much of the length of the Isle of Wight’s southeastern coast. Unquestionably, an absolute Isle of Wight jewel.

It extends 8 ¹⁄₂ miles starting from the village of Luccombe in the southwest to Shanklin, on to Sandown and all the way to Yaverland. And, for the energetic you can climb all the way up to Culver Cliff which has the most spectacular views across the Bay. 

What to see

Shanklin Beach with a traditional English seafront promenade is an old-fashioned ‘Great British seaside’ family beach holiday destination and, moreover, one of the Isle of Wight’s best known stretches of golden sands.

Visit a large amusement arcade with crazy golf, bowling, go-karting and even an indoor golf for rainy days. Later, go outside, there are pirate and dinosaur themed crazy golf courses that even sports a waterfall of ‘pirate blood’.

Next up go to Sandown Pier, obviously, a classic bit of British Seaside Fun.

Further along you will come to Sandham Gardens – overall, a great venue for adults and children alike.

Pop in to the all weather attraction of Sandown animal sanctuary a well known as a rescue centre for big cats.

Venture towards Yaverland beach famous for fossils and visit Dinosaur Isle – Britain’s first purpose built dinosaur museum.

Thereafter, why not have a try your hand at golf? Browns has an 18 hole course (short putting), a 18 hole course (long putting) and a 12 hole pitch and putt course. Chiefly is is all ideal for kids.

Finally, if you feel super fit, climb the cliff to Culver with its spectacular views of the bay.
